Did you know that dog licensing is an important way to ensure your pet's safety?
Dog licensing ensures rabies vaccinations, which protects the health of your family and your pets. The fees collected are used to stop animal cruelty in Maine and to support our local animal shelter.

All dogs over 6 months old are required to be licensed in their town of residence. Owners of unlicensed dogs may be fined up to $100 per animal.
If you have never licensed your dog before, please come see us as soon as possible to avoid this penalty!

Licenses are issued for each calendar year, and must be renewed by January 31 of each year. Licenses for the upcoming year can be purchased between October 1 and January 31.

Licenses cost $6 for a spayed or neutered dog, and $11 for an intact male or female. You may do this in person at the town office during normal business hours. You can also license your dog online between October 1 and January 31 by clicking here.

The state's mandatory late fee of $25 / per animal begins on February 1.

To license your dog, you will need to bring proof of current rabies vaccination. If your dog is spayed or neutered, please bring in proof from the vet's office the first time you license your dog.
